Put a small flame (like a lit splint) near the end of the test tube – if it’s hydrogen you’ll get a “squeaky pop”. Are you getting us to do your homework for you? ;-P

Jack already answered your question, so I got another one for you now!

Q: What did the bartender say when oxygen, hydrogen, sulfur, sodium, and phosphorous walked into his bar?

Jack already answered, and I second the fact that you basically burn it!

You let your sample-gas flow, when you put a flame close to it if you are not under vacuum there will be oxygen around. When it burns, it pops because the reaction is so sudden and creates enough energy that you have a small-scale shockwave from a small-scale bomb!
Note the huge emphasis on small-scale, because we really would like not to burn the building down just to figure out if that huge container was actually filled with hydrogen! 😀
