A few years ago, I was lucky enough to visit an observatory in the south of France. I got to control HUGE telescopes and take all kinds of pictures of stars and galaxies. It was incredible!

It was probably the very first time I was at the ESRF synchrotron in France!
It’s basically this big X-ray source, really powerful, with crazy instruments around it. We were using a new equipment in the new high-pressure instrument: putting a small crystal under pressure between to diamond, while you cool it down at the same time and looking at how the atoms were placed in space with the X-rays.
It was really exciting because usually you tend to do one thing at the time, either the pressure or the low temperature, so we were testing a whole new set up!
